Another weekend gone and another week of reviews for CouchMunky! Had a bad week this week (the only thing that would have made it worse is by being on a Greyhound bus somewhere in Canada with a Chinese cannibal waiting for you to fall asleep), so I didn’t do much in the way of reviews. There are no movies out currently that are worth seeing (I need help here Munkys!), but here what’s been going on for the weekend of August 3rd: Ready? Let’s go: Because no movies were reviewed this weekend, I’m just going straight to next week’s offerings: Pineapple Express – earlier this week I heard of Cheech and Chong’s reuniting and going on tour, and to celebrate, Seth Rogen is bringing out a stoner movie! Seriously, is anyone out there really wanting to see this? No matter how bad this one it, it’s going to beat: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 - guess the first movie didn’t travel far enough. If this movie comes to your neighborhood theater... move! Hell Ride – I think this one will be in limited release. Produced by Quentin Tarantino, it’s a “blood and sex-soaked tale of motorcycle revenge and retribution.”, in the style of the old 1960’s biker movies. Much as I hate to say it, for your Munky dollar worth, this looks to be the best of the three. Stars Michael Madsen, David Carradine and Dennis Hopper. You can view the trailer at www.trailersforall.com/hell-ride-2008-red-band-trailer and see if it’s worth your while. For some reason, movies come out on Wednesday instead of Friday this week. Not sure why, unless it’s to try to topple the #1 spot held by “The Dark Knight”. Skipping to books: Sorry Munkys, I had a horrific schedule this week which didn’t allow for me to get much of any reviewing done. Lots of overtime at work, lots of personal stuff that had to be done, and little time for anything else, including sleeping. I did however get to see a couple of DVD releases: So, let’s try some current DVD releases: Bee Movie – now this should give you an example of how bad my week was. Whenever it comes down to reviewing something like this, you know it can’t get any worse. The movie really picks up about 90 minutes into it, when the end credits appear. Munky Doo! Mannix: The First Season – the best all time private-eye detective series is now finally released on DVD in a six disc set, covering all 24 episodes, and starring Mike Connors! I have waited years for this release, and I am not disappointed. There are new interviews with the (now) 82 year old actor himself, and nice bonus features such as audio commentaries, CBS promotional spots for the 1967 television lineup, a 1969 interview with Mike Connors on the Mike Douglas Show, and clips from the 1997 episode of “Diagnosis: Murder” where Mannix helps Dick Van Dyke solve a murder that dated from an original episode of this series. And where else are you going to see Neil Diamond in one of his first acting jobs? My highest recommendation! And the only good thing that’s happened to me this week! Munky Si! (x6!) Movie Trailers Coming next spring... a new Wolfman movie. You can see a bootleg copy of the trailer at http://www.getthebigpicture.net With Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving. Give it a look see! Great...another Tron movie? Tr2n (yes, that does mean “Tron 2.0”) preview (bootlegged copy, and in poor quality) is available for viewing at www.worstpreviews.com and it may not be available for much longer. Sorry for the short reviews this week, I’ll try to do better next time. Agree/Disagree? Something you want reviewed or want to review it yourself? Comments are especially welcome, and I’ll try to get you a response to every comment/submission. You can contact me at
